Bridgetown, Barbados - Teamwork will be the key to retaining the title, that is what coach of the Barbados team Hendy Springer pointed to as the Barbados Cricket team left the island on Tuesday night for Trinidad to start their title defence of the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) Nagico Super 50.
Springer said that the chances of Barbados retaining the title were good once they maintained the standard which they set last year. Though the team is without the services of some of its senior members Springer said that it gives the young players the opportunity to play.
Noting that they cannot afford to get complacent, Springer mentioned that they will not be taking any team for granted.
His sentiments were echoed by the Barbados captain Kevin Stoute who said though the selectors had a very hard job with choosing the squad it was a good unit.
Stoute was also cautious of the other teams who will be going all out for the title as well, he said that the Barbados team will be taking it one game at a time.
First intrusted with the team last year Stoute may have missed out on some runs with the added pressure of the captaincy, however he said he was putting that behind him and he will be going out there to relax and play ‘Kevin Stoute’s’ cricket.
Stoute said that the team who plays the best 100 overs will win.
Barbados left the Grantley Adams International Airport on Tuesday along with Combined Campuses and Colleges team.
