Bridgetown, Barbados - Captain Ulric Batson stood out with bat and ball as Harlington crushed Customs by 100 runs to capture the third place in the third annual Grantley Adams International (GAIA) Twenty20 Night tapeball tournament at Rices on Tuesday.
Reeling on 44 for three with some good bowling from the Customs team, first-timers community-based team Harlington made up of mostly BCA Elite division players from the Brathwaite Construction/Republic Bank St. Catherine team, overcame some lacklustre performances during the preliminaries.
This was due mainly to Batson who took over the mantle from the second game after elected captain Kenroy Williams was called up for the Barbados Pride franchise team in the 2014-15 WICB Professional Cricket League.
Coming in at No.3, Batson hit an aggressive 44 off 38 balls with two fours and one six, thanks to Darian Cox who dropped a very easy catch on the long-off boundary when he was only three.
Batson and Jamal Smith added 72 before he was magnificently caught by Sheldon Blades on the long-off boundary going for yet another six in the 18th over off Larry Babb.
They ended on 124 for six with Jared Gilkes taking two for 19. There were 40 extras.
Not even the likes of Babb, Brian Corbin, Sheldon Blades and Gilkes could help Customs who were bowled out for 24 in 10.1 overs - the lowest total of the tournament.
Missing from the Customs team were four players including Levi Cadogan, who was overseas on national athletics duty.
Left-arm spinner Derick Bishop took three for two and seamer Batson, two for six to earn Player of the Match award.
