Bridgetown, Barbados - A Sagicor West Indies High Performance (HPC) XI beat a Barbados trials XI by 61 runs in a 50-over practice match at Desmond Haynes Oval today.
Chasing 312 to win, the Barbados XI were bowled out for 250 in 43.3 overs.
Kyle Corbin sustained his fine form of late by topscoring with 64 off the same number of balls. He struck seven fours and three sixes.
Left-hander Jonathan Carter made 52 off 59 balls, striking three fours and three sixes, while Kenroy Williams contributed 46 (50 balls, 3 fours), Rashidi Boucher 34 (41 balls, 4 fours) and skipper Ashley Nurse 32 (25 balls, 1 four, 3 sixes).
No other batsman reached double-figures.
Left-arm spinner Jomel Warrican was the leading wicket-taker with three for 60 off ten overs. Left-arm medium-pacer Raymon Reifer took two for 12 off one over, fast bowler Jason Holder, two for 34 off 5.3 overs and left-arm spinner Nikita Miller, two for 43 off ten overs.
The HPC XI were bowled out for 311 in 49.2 overs after winning the toss.
Lendl Simmons, one of six members of the West Indies One-Day International team at a one-week camp here preparing for the five-match limited overs series against New Zealand in New Zealand next month, topscored with 71 which came off 61 balls and included ten fours and one six.
Reifer, an HPC student, made 68 off 74 balls with eight fours, while former HPC member Kyle Hope hit 56 off 57 deliveries with five boundaries and his younger brother Shai Hope, a current HPC player, blasted 37 off only 17 balls including three fours and two sixes.
Medium-pacer Kevin Stoute was the leading wicket-taker with three for 63 of ten overs. Williams picked up two for 30 overs and fellow off-spinner Nurse, two for 64 off 9.2 overs.
Five members of the West Indies ODI team - appointed captain Dwayne Bravo, Simmons, Holder, Miller and Johnson Charles - all played today, while fast bowler Ravi Rampaul was forced to return to his native Trinidad for the funeral of a family member.
Rampaul was, however, expected to return to Barbados on Wednesday, December 18, to join the other five as they all leave the same day for London en route to New Zealand.
