Over 100 players in inaugural PCL Draft

St John’s, Antigua – Will the Professional Cricket League (PCL) First Round Draft Pick be accomplished Test batsman Ramnaresh Sarwan? Could it be pace merchant Fidel Edwards? Or perhaps the fiery Tino Best? Will Samuel Badree, the T20 specialist, be preferred?

These questions will be answered by the Guyana Franchise as they will have the First Round Draft Pick when the newly launched West Indies Cricket Board PCL Draft Ceremony kicks off in Barbados at 11am on Monday October 6th.

The WICB today announced the list of 102 players who will be in the PCL Draft.

Sarwan heads the list which also includes ten other players with West Indies experience.

The eleven players with international credentials are: 

Ramnaresh Sarwan

Fidel Edwards

Tino Best

Ravi Rampaul (pending his agreement)

Krishmar Santokie (pending his agreement)

Samuel Badree (pending his agreement)

Ryan Hinds

Nelon Pascal

Gavin Tonge

Miles Bascombe

Garey Mathurin

Each of the six franchises will select five players to add to the 10 players which they have already retained. Each squad will comprise of 15 players. 

The Draft will commence with the Guyana Franchise making the opening selection followed by the Leeward Islands Franchise, the Jamaica Franchise, the Windward Islands Volcanoes, Trinidad and Tobago Red Force and finally the Barbados Franchise. 

This formula will be repeated for each of the five rounds of draft picks.

A total of 30 players will be drafted. The remaining players will be available for Pay-For-Play contracts at the discretion of the various franchises. 

Each of the franchises nominated 15 players and the WICB nominated an additional 12 players.

The WICB is awaiting the agreement of Rampaul, Santokie, Badree and also Kevon Cooper to be included in the Draft.

The PCL comprises the WICB Regional 4 Day Tournament and the NAGICO Super50 Tournament.
