Barbados Cricket Association article.
Bridgetown, Barbados - Jonathan Carter showed why he is highly regarded as a top local all-rounder by producing telling performances with both ball and bat to lead St. Andrew Rhythm to a thrilling one-wicket win off the very last ball over St. John Crusaders and the title in the Winners Take It All four-team UWI Inter-Parish Twenty20 tournament.
After playing in the second Barbados limited overs trial match at Desmond Haynes Oval during the day, Carter moved to the neighbouring 3Ws Oval for what turned out to be a most gripping final on Thursday night.
Bowling right-arm medium-pace, he picked up three for 20 off seven overs as St. John were limited to 103 for seven off 20 overs after winning the toss.
Among Carter's victims was Ashley Nurse, his Barbados and West Indies 'A' teammate, who topscored with 31 off 23 balls including five boundaries.
Barbados T20 opener Justin Brathwaite made 24 off 25 balls.
Carter then returned to score 43 off 42 balls with three fours and two sixes at No. 3. He dominated a third wicket partnership of 53 off 50 balls with Larando Best (13) but there was then a collapse as seven wickets tumbled for 37 runs.
It came down to a most sensational final over with six runs needed and three wickets intact.
Jade Padmore, a lively fast bowling all-rounder, who plays for ESA Field Pickwick, was operating from the Ramadhin & Valentine end at the south.
Akeem Jordan was run out for 11 off the first ball and Kemar Small was also soon run out without scoring, leaving Ryan "Vaas" Clarke and Ashayne Haynes with the task of getting four runs off the last three balls.
There was more drama when Padmore sent down a wide and in between there was a leg-bye before one run was required off the very last ball. Haynes swung at it and got an edge to third man for the batsmen to scamper a single and bring glory to St. Andrew, who earned $4 000.
Clarke made four not out off eight balls while Haynes was unbeaten on two from three deliveries.
Off-spinner Amory Holder took three for 23 off four overs.
