GEORGETOWN, Guyana, CMC - Host Guyana and Windward Islands will contest the finals of the Regional Under-19 One-Day cricket Tournament after commanding victories in the penultimate round of competition here on Wednesday.

Centuries from Simron Hetmyer and Tagenarine Chanderpaul powered Guyana to a 44 run triumph over Barbados while the Windwards deprived Jamaica of a place in the finals with a nine wicket win.

Guyana who top the table on 36.4 points and Windwards on 21.9, just ahead of Jamaica’s 21.8, will face each other in the finals at Everest ground on Friday.

The Guyanese resumed their rampage through the tournament by piling up a mammoth 298 for five in their 50 overs, fired up by  Hetmyer’s 123 and Chanderpaul’s unbeaten 103.

Hetmyer featured in a century opening stand with Chanderpaul before falling victim to Matthew Jones who triggered the breakthrough for Barbados after Guyana made the Bajans toil.

Hetmyer struck 18 fours in a 102 ball innings that expired while Guyana was sailing smoothly on 176 at the Guyana National Stadium.

Barbados captain Joshua Drakes, once again led from the front, in his side’s efforts to hunt down the winning total.

After finishing with leading bowling figures of two for 22, Drakes returned to hit a top score of 75 and got support from Lee-Germon Gaskin with a knock of 69.

However Sharaz Ramcharran stifled the Bajans enterprising efforts, grabbing top figures of four for 59 as they limped to 254 for 10 in their 50 overs.

At Bourda, a valiant effort with the bat from Jamaica’s captain Ramaal Lewis was unable to avert a collapse as the Jamaicans crumbled for 141 all out in 45 overs against tight windwards bowling.

Lewis, who came in at number six batted through the rest of the innings to be undefeated on 49 with no other batsmen surpassing 11.

Ryan John and Craig Phillip were the architects of Jamaica’s demise with figures of 4 or 29 and 2 for 33 respectively.

Gidron Pope with a well played 75 and Anson Latchman 41 not out guided the Windwards safely to 142 for 1 in 38.4 overs.

Meantime half centuries from Camillo Carimbocas (60) and Brian Christmas (57) lifted Trinidad and Tobago to a five wicket win over Leeward Islands.

T and T, just below third placed Jamaica with 19.8 points in the standings, cruised to 256 for 5 in 40 overs with Amir Jangoo also contributing 44 after the Leewards posted 250 for 8 in their 50 overs.

Kacey Carty struck  the top score of 83 not out while Ross Powell added 53 but the Leewards were restricted from consolidating against and T and T attack which saw  Tevin Jadoo 3-42, Akil Seetal 2-39 and Justin Joseph 2-60, emerging as the main wicket takers.
