GEORGETOWN, Guyana, CMC – Jamaica suffered a batting meltdown and crashed to a 68-run defeat in their fifth round match of the Regional Under-19 One-Day Championship here Sunday.
Chasing a demanding revised target of 175 off 30 overs under the Duckworth/Lewis Method, Jamaica were bundled out for 107 off 29.3 overs at Bourda.
Spinners Balchan Baldeo (2-22) and Steven Sankar (2-31) finished with two wickets apiece but Jamaica self-destructed, suffering three run-outs during their innings.
Shahid Crooks top-scored with 34 and pulled Jamaica around from a position of nine for two when both openers Leroy Lugg (0) and Odain McCatty (8) fell cheaply.
He struck two sixes and put on 60 for the third wicket with Ryon Burnett who scored 17, as Jamaica rallied after their early setbacks. However, his run out at 69 for two saw the last eight wickets fall for 38 runs.
Earlier, Guyana got a top score of 75 from opener Shimron Hetmyer as they were bowled out for 184 off 40 overs, after they were sent in.
Hetmyer and captain Brian Sattaur, who scored 41, added 89 for the second wicket after Guyana lost Tagenarine Chanderpaul cheaply for four.
Seamer Gareth Henry was the best bowler with three for 30 while Odean Smith chipped in with two for 29.
At Enmore, Windward Islands beat Trinidad and Tobago by two wickets in another low-scoring game.
Batting first, T&T were restricted to 149 for eight off 50 overs with opener Jeremy Solozano top-scoring with 28, and off-spinner Gidron Pope snaring four for 23.
In reply, the Windwards achieved their target with just seven balls left in the contest, with Ryan John getting 29 and tail-ender Sherman Lewis scoring an invaluable unbeaten 26.
Fast bowler Akil Seetal (3-31) and off-spinner Samuel Roopnarine (3-36) finished with three wickets apiece.
At the Demerara Cricket Club, the game between ICC Americas and Barbados finished in a no-result after rain allowed just 26.3 overs, with ICC Americas reaching 55 for four.
