Georgetown, Guyana - Scotiabank has congratulating Kiddy Cricket alumnus and West Indies batsman Kraigg Brathwaite on making his first test century.

The Barbadian opener scored a patient 129 on the second day of the second test between the West Indies and New Zealand at Queen’s Park Oval and his innings was key to West Indies’ strong first innings total of 460.

Brathwaite, who is the second Kiddy Cricket graduate to go on to represent the West Indies, also wrote his name in history, partnering with hometown batsman Darren Bravo for a record fourth wicket partnership against New Zealand of 182.

Scotiabank’s Regional Marketing Director, Heather Goldson, expressed her delight at Brathwaite’s accomplishment, saying it underscored the importance of the Kiddy Cricket programme, which is run in over 700 schools around the West Indies.

“This really gets to the heart of why we have sponsored the Kiddy Cricket programme for the last 15 years. We applaud Kraigg and we trust his success will inspire even more Kiddy Cricketers to go on to create the next great cricket moment,” said Goldson.

Brathwaite has previously hailed the influence of the programme, recalling his days of going to Kensington Oval as a Kiddy Cricketer to put on the skills displays at international matches.

Speaking at the Kiddy Cricket Festival champions celebration in Barbados, Brathwaite said those opportunities motivated him to look forward to the day when he too would get to represent the West Indies.

“That was a joy for me. It inspired me even more,” declared the young opening batsman.

Scotiabank has been part of the Caribbean for 125 years and has a presence in more than 55 countries around the world including Guyana.
