Bridgetown, Barbados - Captain Shaquana Quintyne scored 48 off 26 balls with eight fours to help her team beat Shakera Selman's side by two wickets in the second Barbados Women's one-day trial match.
Set a target of 151 from 50 overs, Quintyne's X1 romped to victory in just 25 overs under overcast skies at Pine Basin on Sunday.
The performance by all-rounder Quintyne, who plays for West Indies Women, came in the face of fine bowling from Danielle Small, who took four for nine off 4.5 overs and West Indies all-rounder Deandra Dottin with four for 29 off five overs.
Leading the team in the absence of Kycia Knight who had a slight injury, the 18-year-old Quintyne opened the innings with Kyshona Knight, who made 24 before the latter fell with the the score 86 in just 7.1 overs.
Quintyne was soon brilliantly caught and bowled by Dottin after playing some elegant strokes both through the on and off side as she delighted the small crowd. Some of the male cricketers present actually said “that girl can bat better than me, she hitting the ball clean”.
Malisa Howard contributed 24 from 42 balls.
With this being the last trial in preparation for the regional tournament in Dominica, the selectors decided that although the game was officially over, they would extend play.
Selman's X1 made 150 in 31.5 overs including 50 extras of which 44 were wides.
Hayley Matthews topscored with 31 off 43 balls striking four boundaries.
Shanna Thompson took three for 37 from 6.5 overs and Shamilia Connell, three for 46 from 8 overs.
