Bridgetown, Barbados - For the second straight season, Jonathan Carter of Sagicor Life UWI topped the batting averages while Super Centre Spartan left-arm spinner Akeal Hosein headed the bowling in the BCA LIME Elite division championship.
But long-standing Republic Bank St. Catherine pair of Kenroy Williams and Derick Bishop boasted of scoring the most runs and taking the most wickets respectively in the 2013 competition, which was won by CGI Maple.
Left-hander Carter, 25, a Barbados and West Indies 'A' player, turned out in only three matches but he made his presence felt by scoring 380 runs at an average of 76.00, which bettered his 72.00 last year when he also had the honour of amassing the most runs (648) in seven matches.
Carter's highest score was a whirlwind 160 off 145 balls with 12 sixes and nine fours in the first innings against ICBL Empire in Series 5 at the 3Ws Oval in Series 5. It was also his first match of the season.
Hosein, 20, a member of the Barbados-based Sagicor West Indies High Performance Centre, enjoyed a dream debut local season with 35 wickets at just 8.54 runs each in four matches before he was sidelined by a wrist injury which required surgery. A Trinidad & Tobago first-class player, Hosein had six successive five-wicket hauls - he also bowled in only six innings - for what is arguably a record of sorts in the top BCA domestic championship. His best figures were seven for 48 in the second innings against BDFSP for a match haul of 11 for 81 in the fourth round when he made his debut at Paragon.
The 29-year-old Williams was unquestionably the leading all-rounder. Despite not recording a century, he was the only batsman with over 600 runs (608) including seven fifties at an average of 50.66. As an off-spinner, he picked up 34 wickets (ave: 20.35) to the fifth highest wicket-taker.
Williams' highest score was 73 - made twice - against ESA Field Pickwick in the first series at Bayfield and Guardian General Barbados Youth at Lester Vaughan, Cane Garden in Round 4.
Left-arm spinner Bishop, also aged 29, hauled in 52 wickets at 15.44 runs apiece from 318.3 overs. He was the sole bowler with over 50 scalps, as well as the only one to send down over 300 overs.
Bishop had a career-best eight for 43 against BDFSP at Paragon in the fifth series.
It was the ninth time all-rounder Bishop had taken more than 50 wickets in a season since his debut in 2000 for Combined Schools South in what was then known as the First division (rebranded Elite from 2012) championship.
Both Bishop and Williams made their Division 1 debut the same season while students at Deighton Griffith Secondary and both also moved to St. Catherine three years later and have remained with the St. Philip club ever since.
Apart from Williams, only one other batsman - Rashidi Boucher, the Spartan and Barbados opener with 578 (ave: 44.46)- scored over 500 runs.
The 23-year-old Boucher was the only player to score two centuries - 101 off BDFSP and 161 against Carlton at Desmond Haynes Oval in the fifth series.
