Bridgetown, Barbados - Nottinghamshire retained their title in the Barbados Twenty20 Festival with a ten-run win over Northamptonshire under the Duckworth-Lewis method after persistent rain and a couple other factors turned play on the final day into a virtual farce at Kensington Oval.
In the six-team tournament featuring four English teams, along with Barbados and University of West Indies, Nottinghamshire were to oppose Barbados in the first semi-final at noon with Northamptonshire tackling Hampshire in the other at 3:30 p.m.
When it became clear that play would not start until after 4 pm, the organisers and teams agreed that only one match could be played, despite the fact that the final had been advertised to start at 7 p.m.
In the circumstances, Saturday's best performers Northamptonshire and Nottinghamshire contested the final, which started as early as 4:31 p.m.
Further interruptions restricted Nottinghamshire's total to 107 for three off 18 overs after they were sent in, setting Northamptonshire 115 to win from the same number of overs under the D/L method. They were restricted to 104 for seven.
The Plate Final between Warwickshire and UWI, which was scheduled for noon at the neighbouring Desmond Haynes Oval was called off early due to extremely wet conditions caused by rain which started affecting the west and other parts of the island just before 10 a.m.
Summarised scores of final:
Nottinghamshire 107-3 (18 overs) (Chris Read 40 retired hurt, Riki Wessels 18, James Taylor 16, Matt Cross 15).
