Barbados Cricket Association article.

Bridgetown, Barbados - A timely, unbroken sixth wicket partnership of 59 in 8.2 overs between Dwight Carter and Jabari Yarde spurred title holders Foundation 'A' Old Scholars to a five-wicket win over former champions Deighton Griffith Old Scholars in the second quarter-final of the sixth annual Christ Church Foundation School Joel Garner Twenty20 tapeball tournament at Briar Hall on Thursday night.

Chasing 124 to win in 20 overs, Foundation 'A' were in some bother at 65 for five after ten overs when Yarde joined Carter. Mixing aggression with sensible strokeplay, the pair propelled their team into the semi-finals with ten balls to spare.

Carter lived up to his reputation as a dangerous big-hitter by slamming three sixes and three fours in an unbeaten 44 off 36 balls to duly win the Baron's Smokehouse $100 Player-of-the-Match award, while Yarde scored 16 not out off 20 balls.

Opener Ricardo Yearwood contributed 27 off 30 balls with three fours and one six before he was fifth out.

The dismissal of captain Michael Matthews for nought in the fifth ball of the innings, plus two run outs compounded the early woes for Foundation 'A'

Deighton Griffith, the 2012 champions, scored 123 for six after winning the toss but would have been somewhat disappointed with the total following an opening partnership of 74 in 13.4 overs between captain Martin Nurse and Jeremy Brathwaite.

Left-hander Nurse, a former Barbados player, topscored with 38 off 46 balls including six fours, while Brathwaite made 24 from 39 deliveries. Both were removed by left-arm spinner Chad Clarke-Reifer.

Fast bowler Jofra Archer, who represented the Barbados and West Indies Under-19 teams last year, grabbed three for 12 off four overs including two maidens, while Clarke-Reifer picked up two for 28, also off four overs.

Combermere Old Scholars won the first quarter-final against Lodge Old Scholars by ten runs at Briar Hall on Monday night.

The last two quarter-final matches are slated for Friday, March 7, at Dover. RG Plumbing Coleridge & Parry Old Scholars, the 2011 champions, clash with Foundation School at 6.30 p.m. and Foundation 'B' Old Scholars meet Alleyne Alumni, the 2011 and 2013 losing finalists at 9.30 p.m.

The semi-finals (March 21) and final (March 28) will be played at Foundation School, Church Hill.

Summarised scores of Thursday's match:
