GROS ISLET, St Lucia, CMC - Disciplined bowling led by a five-wicket haul by left-arm experienced Vincentian seamer Kenroy Peters helped the Windward Islands to a nine-wicket victory over Barbados in the opening round of the Regional Four-Day Cricket Tournament at the Beausejour Cricket Ground on Sunday.

Barbados started the day, in what was the third of the day/night fixture, on 11 without loss after being led by 39 runs by the Windwards. They went to the close Saturday night facing just one over of the second innings.

The Windwards had just declared their first innings on 252 for nine having dismissed the Barbadians for 213 in their first innings.

Captain Kraigg Brathwaite, who topscored with 82 in his team's first innings, was their leading scorer for the second straight innings. This time his contribution was a mere15 and was the second wicket to fall and the first for Peters who finished with five for 16 off 12 overs.

Only two other Barbadian batsmen got to double figures, opener Rashidi Boucher with 14 and number three Roston Chase who also struck 14 before Peters and Nelon Pascal ploughed through the Barbadian batting order resulting in their last eight wickets tumbling for 38 runs.

Pascal finished with three for 42 and Delorn Johnson, with the wickets of Chase and Jonathan Carter, finished with two for 28. The Windwards’ bowlers were disciplined in their line and lengths but several of the Barbadian batsmen succumbed to poor shot selection.

Needing 52 for victory, the Windwards raced to their target in just 11 overs. Johnson Charles, who partnered Devon Smith in opening the innings, was particularly severe on all bowlers plundering 33 in 49 minutes off 37 balls with seven fours.

Smith was the only victim to the Barbadians, leg before wicket to Miguel Cummins for two.
