BRIDGETOWN, Barbados, CMC – All-rounder Kevin Stoute and Shamarh Brooks gathered half-centuries but leaders Guyana Jaguars produced a steady bowling performance to limit Barbados Pride on the opening day of their seventh round clash here Friday.

Opting to bat first, Pride lost opener Kyle Corbin without scoring in the second over of the morning without a run on the board but recovered well to be dismissed for 274 at Kensington Oval.

Stoute, batting at number eight, stroked an unbeaten 56 while Brooks also got 56 up the order. Captain and opener Kraigg Brathwaited scored 40 while left-hander Jonathan Carter weighed in with 38.

Jaguars were persistent, however, with fast bowler Keon Joseph picking up three for 49 and left-arm spinner Veerasammy Permaul (2-43), left-arm seamer Ramon Reifer (2-49) and Test leg-spinner Devendra Bishoo (2-72) all supporting with two wickets each.

Jaguars drew first blood in the top of the table clash when Joseph bowled Corbin off the inside edge with his fifth delivery of his opening spell.

Pride fought back with a string of small partnerships as they headed into the lunch interval on 78 for two.

Brathwaite and West Indies teammate Shai Hope, who scored 27, added 46 for the second wicket while Hope and Brooks put on a further 32 runs for the third wicket, to be together at the break.

The right-handed Brathwaite carved out a busy innings off just 51 deliveries with seven fours before edging a cut at fellow Barbadian Reifer and being taken behind by Anthony Bramble at 46 for two, in the second over following the first water break.

Hope failed to add to his lunch time score, bowled first ball after lunch by a full length delivery from Permaul but Pride benefitted from a 55-run, fourth wicket stand between Brooks and Roston Chase (17).

The right-handed Brooks faced 122 balls in 2-3/4 hours and counted seven fours and a six while Chase supported with a 61-ball knock that included a single boundary.

With tea beckoning, Chase tried to go over the top with Permaul but only succeeded in finding Assad Fudadin at cover. His dismissal sparked a slide as Pride lost three wickets for 21 runs.

Wicketkeeker Shane Dowrich edged a drive at Bishoo to captain Leon Johnson at slip for five and Brooks missed a drive and was bowled by Bishoo, leaving the hosts on 152 for five at tea.

Stoute then anchored two key partnerships with an innings that lasted 99 balls in just under 2-1/2 hours and included five fours and a six.

He posted 65 for the seventh wicket with Carter who hit six fours in a 62-ball knock, before adding a further 47 for the eighth wicket with Justin Greaves who made 19 from 41 deliveries.

Carter was caught at the wicket off Joseph and once  Greaves was taken at forward short leg by Tagenarine Chanderpaul off the same bowler, Pride lost their last three wickets for eight runs.
