Bridgetown, Barbados - Six months after the first semi-final in the 2013 BCA Sagicor General Shield was played, there will be a resumption of the 40-over-a-side tournament with a quarter-final clash between Mount Gay North Stars and Psychiatric Hospital at the SJPP ground on Sunday, January 19.
In a Press release today, the BCA noted that the competition had been postponed as a result of an injunction filed by Maxwell Sports Club in the Supreme Court of Barbados against the Barbados Cricket Association to stop the playing of the match between North Stars and Psychiatric Hospital on Sunday, September 1, 2013.
"After extended discussions between the parties, this matter has been resolved and Maxwell has agreed to lift the injunction.
"As a consequence, this quarter-final between Mount Gay North Stars and Psychiatric Hospital will now be played at SJPP on Sunday, January 19, 2014," the release said.
"The winner will contest the semi-final on Sunday, January 26 at Friendship against Old Brigand Dover who defeated Rocklyn Hardware Isolation Cavaliers in their quarter-final game on July 14, 2013.
"Having defeated Nicholls Baking Combermere on July 21, 2013, by 97 runs, Barbados Fire Service has already qualified for the final."
On August 30, Maxwell filed the injunction to stop the playing of the match which had then been scheduled for Pine Basin.
On Thursday, July 11, 2013, the BCA had received a protest from North Stars Cultural & Social Club indicating that Maxwell had fielded a player who had not been transferred from the Club with which he played in 2012.
Investigations revealed that up to that date no transfer was received by the BCA for that player and in accordance with Regulation #15 of the BCA Special Conditions and Regulations of Play, Maxwell therefore would forfeit the games in which this player competed.
Maxwell then protested and the Complaints & Disputes Committee of the BCA which met to hear the protest unanimously rejected it.
Based on the above, North Stars topped Zone G with 20 points.
