Bridgetown, Barbados - Three teams get set to bowl off the Barbados Cricket Association’s (BCA) 2014 Iris Walker Memorial Women’s competition this weekend.
This was revealed yesterday at a media launch held at Kensington Oval, where some of the details were disclosed about the competition which bears the name of the first woman to score a century for Barbados in a regional tournament.
The three teams in the competition are the Pat Whittaker Pride, UWI Blackbirds and the Angela Harris Tridents.
After practice sessions were continuously held from October until now, the players are set to do battle in two types of tournaments over the next two months.
This Saturday heralds the start of the 50-over competition, while on Sunday there will be the Twenty20 competition.
The 50-over competition is up from 40 overs and according to Hartley Reid, this was done to simulate the international conditions of the game.
The first game will pit the Pat Whittaker Pride against the Angela Harris Tridents at Yorkshire. In this game the twin sisters, Kycia Knight and Kyshona Knight will come up against each other as Kycia will captain the Pat Whittaker Pride and Kyshonna leads the Angela Harris Tridents.
However, they will not be the only twins on opposing teams as Winmalecia Bowen will turn out for the Pride, while her twin sister Winmarie suits up for the Tridents. Capping off the twin section are Shai Carrington who will be playing for the Pride, while her sister Shonte Carrighton will play for the Tridents.
Teenager Shaquana Quintyne will be turning out for UWI Blackbirds.
The tournament will be played in a round robin format and the team with the most points will be declared the winner.
The final games of the tournament are set for February 22 and 23.
